What to expect:
Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet and make sure you both feel comfortable working with me. I will ask you questions about your relationship, the problems you are experiencing and when they started, as well as your hopes for therapy and what you each want to achieve.
If you decide you want to continue working with me and book another session we will discuss what days, times and locations are best for you and the frequency of your appointments. Initially it is beneficial to meet weekly in order to gain some momentum and many couples prefer to continue having weekly sessions, however, if there are time or budget constraints or after 3 or 4 sessions we can meet fortnightly.
How long will it take?
The length of time depends on a number of factors including the kind of issue/s you are dealing with and the complexity of the issue/s you want to address. Your commitment in terms of how much time and energy you have to put into working on your relationship between sessions also contributes to the overall length of time. Specific, clearly defined problems can take up to 6 sessions, however, more complex longer standing issues will realistically take longer and we will review your progress as we go.
How I Work
I am compassionate and empathetic. I will encourage you to focus on how you personally contribute to the patterns that repeat in your relationship and support you to accept responsibility for the part you play. I am active and directive throughout this process equipping you with skills and the use of practical tools to help you disrupt unhealthy and entrenched cycles or patterns of behaviour.
